The Proof is in the Publishing

As teachers / workshop leaders there’s nothing more rewarding than student success, the validation that what you are doing possesses some merit, some value to those who seek it. The bespoke courses here at Unthank are carefully designed, offering, we hope, a balance between knowledge, wisdom, insight and fun. As more people realise they can study from the comforts of home, the more we’ve tailored our courses to serve you, utilising myriad forms of communication and teaching styles to render the process more collaborative, more dynamic.

We hope that our students both enjoy courses, but also that they grow as writers, their skills sharpened, launching them further on their literary journey. And for those who work with words this usually means some form of publication.

So we are particularly delighted that recent student Danny Beusch was shortlisted for the Leicester Writes Short Story Prize , which received 300 entries, with a story he started and finished with us. The piece began life with a writing prompt before being finessed through several rounds of feedback and workshopping with both tutor and participants, and as a result of the shortlisting will appear in an anthology. It’s wonderful to observe more and more of our alumni go on to publishing success, and we hope this is the first of many hits for Danny.

Our Introduction to Writing Short Stories is tailored to suit both beginners and those with some experience of the form, and the next 8-week course begins on September 3rd. You can read more about it and register here. Or email us for more information.

You can also read more on why Tom Vowler feels short stories are particularly important just now here

We look forward to working with you in creating some prize-winning fiction.
